My name is Doreen Bischof. I am a local-Kansas artist who is passionate about sharing my love of art with you!
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t draw, doodle, or create pictures from found objects. I’ve never had formal art training, but instead am self-taught in the “classroom” of my own home. Since I was a kid, I have worked to gain knowledge by experimenting with different mediums and studying the works of the great masters in borrowed books from the library. One of the most exciting times in my life as an artist was visiting the Museum of Art in Washington D.C. where I saw original pieces created by my heroes of the art world: Monet, Renoir, Mary Cassatt, Raphael, and da Vinci! Seeing the “real thing” and not just pictures on a page took my breath away.
I was raised in Texas but moved to Kansas in 1992. I fell in love with the Flint Hills and can’t imagine calling any other place home. I am blessed to have my mom with me, three daughters and sons-in-law, and 8 grandchildren. I enjoy sharing my love of art with my grand-kids and watching them explore all the possibilities available to create unique representations of the world around them.
I have worked with many mediums from pastel chalks, pencil, watercolor, and acrylics. Recently I have been recreating my paintings using discarded pieces of clear glass re-purposing the broken, sharp, and fragile pieces into colorful expressions of my heart. In glass I have found my true passion! All of my pieces are hand-cut and hand-painted by me in my home studio.
